Based on some domain purchases made this week, all signs point to yes.

DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John’s and Villanova are bolting from their current conference structure on June 30th, and are taking the Big East Conference name with them. This leaves a number of current Big East teams conference-less and needing to make some big decisions.

Now What?

A Super Friends of Big 12 Presidents have been meeting at the Justice League HQ, deliberating on the future structural plans and naming possibilities of the new conference, which will have 10 members in 2014, and 12 by 2015. It appears they’ve settled on a rather patriotic choice.

Covington & Burling, the conference’s law firm, purchased and registered the domain names America12.org, America12Conference.com, America12Sports.com, American12.org, American12conference.com, AmericaTwelve.com and TheAmerica12Conference.com this week.

America 12

The teams which will reportedly comprise the America 12 conference include Connecticut, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Houston, Memphis, South Florida, SMU, Temple, Tulane and UCF. Navy is scheduled to join in 2015, and Tulsa is the leading candidate to become the league’s 12th member. The deadline for a new conference name is July 1st.

This decision obviously has some huge marketing and recruiting implications moving forward, if the domain names registered are any indication, America 12 is here to stay.
