Measure your brainwaves. Send them to your computer, smartphone or tablet. Strengthen your mind.

That’s what the new brain-sensing headband ‘Muse’ promises to bring to the world by mid-2013. Muse is the literal brainchild of Canadian company Interaxon, who sports over a decades worth of research in the realm of brain to computer interfaces. The team firmly believes that brainwave recognition technology will soon reshape the way we interact with our gadgets, and each other.

“From thought-controlled slot cars to brainwave-powered toasters. From levitating chairs to remote-controlled blimps. We’ve been playing and experimenting, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with this technology.”  -Interaxon

Interaxon describes Muse as a “comfortable, sleek, four-sensor headband that allows you to control applications, games, reduce stress, improve memory and concentration, and eventually control devices directly with your mind.”

How does it work? Muse is an EEG (electroencephalography) that measures your brainwaves in real-time and wirelessly sends them to your smart device, showing you how well your brain is performing. Muse also translates your brainwaves into instructions to interact with content on your iOS or Android device.

Sensors on the front of the band make contact on your forehead, and the reference sensors on the arms rest on the backs of your ears. Muse connects wirelessly to your devices via Bluetooth. Interaxon is crowdfunding their idea via Indiegogo, and have laid out some clear goals for themselves.

Today: Improve Your Mind

Within 10 Years: Play Games and operate toys, monitor fatigue to keep you alert on long drives, control lights and temperature in your home, create legit mood playlists and match virtual wits with your friends.

Here’s a short video about the product.

“Simplifying the incredibly complicated signals that come out of your brain and giving you controls you can integrate with your tools” -Interaxon

You can pre-order your Muse today for under $150 and Interaxon aims to have the cool, wearable tech shipped out by mid 2013.

Mind control is coming people, what do you think about that?

Hmmm, intriguing. I am curious about how having the muse on your head (a fashion trend in the making for all you fashion designers) will allow you to control only your “appliances” is there a unique code for every user? (How will this impact the control freaks in your life? Seriously though, this could be useful especially to multi-taskers who can check things off their list by simply thinking about it. I am a little leery of all the random thoughts floating about perhaps resulting in mass confusion.
