French rally driver Guerlain Chicherit has pulled off what’s said to be the first unassisted backflip by a car.

Driving a Mini Cooper Countryman.

Back flips in cars have taken place in the past by utilizing special ramps and moving elements to successfully complete the stunts. This attempt marked the first time no such gimmicks were used.

Chicherit used a static ramp, not all that different than one used by skiers. With the ideal ramp angle in place, the 34-year-old daredevil utilized an extremely light touch with the accelerator and a MINI with a suitably buoyant suspension setup to get the job done.
