Hi I’m Shelby! I love music. Let me preface by saying that I am not a musician, expert, or professional of any kind; I’m just a college kid with a passion for good tunes and good times.

The “Top 11 Playlists” are a collection of some of my personal favorites, in no particular order, to correspond with the theme of the week. There will be an eclectic mix including everything from Miles Davis to Jay-Z. Hope you like! Throw me some comments if you have any feedback. Special thanks to Astounde for hosting.

Top 11 Playlist
Theme: The Sampler (A little something for everyone)

1. The Suburbs- Mr. Little Jeans
This track is an Arcade Fire cover. It’s got a really unique sound and adds a whole different element to the original. Initially upon hearing these tracks I loved them both, not realizing that one was a cover of the other. It wasn’t until a few times of listening to both that I picked up on it… same lyrics, different sound (also, same title. Blonde moment?). Fun Fact: Mr. Little Jeans is in fact not a mister (as you can probably hear) and is from Norway. Cool.

2. To Be Young (Is to Be Sad, Is to Be High)- Ryan Adams
This is one of my top 10 favorite songs of all time. It’s impossible not to dance and/or sing along.

3. Thinkin Bout You- Frank Ocean
I can’t seem to get enough of this song. It’s so soulful and Mr. Ocean has such a fab voice.

4. Fineshrine- Purity Ring
Another of my recent obsessions. I love the twinkly/sparkly sounds and the short pauses before each chorus. Purity Ring really proves their musical genius with this track.

5. Classy Girls- The Lumineers
The Lumineers do it all with this track. They were excellent in concert at The University of Denver last week, BTW.

6. Riot on an Empty Street- Kings of Convenience
This song is so soothing and always reminds me of Fall. I could snuggle up with a good book and a cup of tea to this one on repeat all day.

7. Quality Control- Jurassic 5
Don’t be one of those people who completely rules out certain music genres; trust me, even if you’re not big into rap/hip-hop, you need to give this one a try. It’s a classic. (p.s.– If you like, check out “After School Special”, also by J5). (p.p.s.– if you are a hip-hop fan, 1. throw me a comment and 2. there’s plenty more where this came from. Stay tuned).

8. Werewolf- Fiona Apple
This is a unique new track off Fiona’s new album. I’m not crazy about the album as a whole, but this song is really growing on me.

9. Woodstock- Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
My absolute favorite track from CSN&Y. If you haven’t heard this in a while, give it another listen. Remember how awesome it is?! For all you first time listeners, lemme know what you think.

10. Young Men Dead- The Black Angels
This. Song. Is. Badass. Actually ranked #1 on my all-time favorite songs to snowboard to.

11. The Suburbs- Arcade Fire
Now take a listen to the original “Suburbs” track. What do you think of this one, and what do you think of the cover?
