New “Xbox 720″ Details and Images Leaked
New Xbox to include Kinect 2.0, Augmented Reality, 3D Sound, Blu-Ray and HD Touch Screen Controllers. Release expected by late 2013.
We’re days away from the seven year anniversary of the launch of the phenomenally successful Xbox 360 and Xbox World Magazine has unleashed some incredible information about Microsoft’s new Xbox console, nicknamed Durango during development, and widely referred to as Xbox 720.
It’s been a while since a new console has been released, and Microsoft is aiming to make up for lost time. The console is rumored to just be called the “Xbox”, and feature a plethora of mouth-watering perks.
Microsoft’s new Kinect 2.0 interface will feature a higher level of accuracy, stereo imaging, better voice recognition, and the ability to track up to four players at once instead of two. Xbox World Magazine claims that down the road, the console will be compatible with augmented reality glasses. Another bold claim is that the new Xbox will come equipped with second screen controllers with HD and touch capabilities (similar to the new Nintendo Wii U controllers).
“Xbox World has been at the cutting edge of Durango coverage for over 12 months. Unless something really dramatic changes, everything we revealed (is accurate)” -Xbox World Editor in chief Dan Dawkins
Though there is still no price set, you’d have to assume it’s going to be lofty. The Xbox World report boasts that the “Xbox 720″ might come locked and loaded with 16 cores (“four hardware cores, each divided into four logical cores”) and 8GB of RAM. For you non-gamers out there, that’s a lot of power and memory smashed together.
Bloomberg recently reported that console is expected to be released just in time for the 2013 holiday season. What are your thoughts on the potential new Xbox console and the current direction of the gaming industry?
