Artificial Intelligence Replacing Journalists

Written by Michael Awada on . Posted in Business, Social Media

A popular trend in journalism over the last 5+ years has been to enlist editors to repackage and repurpose news headlines; saving time and money while increasing content and viewership.

Reuters and the Associated Press are among organizations that today have installed automation for headline generation and sifting through press releases and comment sections.

Now Microsoft and MSN, effective at the end of June, will be laying off approximately fifty journalists and replacing them full time with robots.

A few people involved were quoted as saying:

“It’s demoralizing to think machines can replace us but there you go.”

“I spend all my time reading about how automation and AI is going to take all our jobs, and here I am—AI has taken my job.”
