Just a couple of years ago, nobody knew who Stephen Strausburg, Bryce Harper, and Mike Trout were. Now that these young guns are the talk of the league, we’re seeing how bright their star really is. With the 2012 MLB Draft taking place tonight at 7 PM (EST), it’s time to take a deeper look at some of the most incredible future all-stars out there. All of the prospects below are under 20, some have been drafted, while some will go tonight. These are names that aren’t yet known except by the baseball die-hards, but you can definitely expect to be rooting for or against them soon.

The Pitchers-

Dylan Bundy, (Orioles)- The Baltimore Orioles are surprising everyone and having their best season in a decade. Just how good could they be with the addition of one of the top pitching prospects in the game? Just 19 years old, Bundy may already be big league ready. The #1 pick of the 2011 draft only just suffered his first minor league loss last week. He can touch 99 MPH on the radar gun, and has a glistening .68 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 40 innings this season. The Orioles are babying him, but it’ll be tough to keep him down if he keeps performing the way he is.

Wearable Charger For Electricity On The Go

For as smart as our phones have become, the battery life and charging constraints are pretty dumb. If you’re not a classically trained ‘always prepared’ Boy Scout that brings your charger everywhere, a dead phone has been a frequent foe. The phone taps out at the most inopportune times; when you really need to talk to someone, when you run into your favorite celebrity, or when you really need to play Angry Birds. Even if you brought your charger along, where are you going to find an outlet? Most establishments guard their electricity like L.A. Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick guards the net. Lucky for us, we live in the 21st century, a magical time where outlets will soon be a thing of the past.

Self Destructing Technology At Your Fingertips

self destruct

We’ve all seen the spy movies where a pertinent message is delivered from HQ to the hero. To protect the agency, the message is always set to self destruct in a matter of seconds. In the case of Inspector Gadget, it made for some funny scenes of the message blowing up at inopportune times. The source and content of the message is safely destroyed and unable to be traced. In the 21st century, we all have secret agent type technology at our fingertips. We often say or send things we regret or that we prefer to remain private. Often times, the message leaks, and we’re been left to face the consequences of our texts, e-mails, and videos. That’s all about to change.

Breaking the Universal Speed Limit

Written by James Anderssen on . Posted in Science, Technology

As we grow into this coming age, technology is allowing us the ability to feed the thrills of our imagination unlike ever before. Whether it’s watching automobiles rocket around a track at over two hundred miles an hour or observing a plane pierce through the sound barrier, many of us have an innate desire to push body, mind, and technology to their limits.

One such limit that scientists have been trying to crack for decades is the one set forth by one of the most brilliant minds of all time, Albert Einstein. Through his analysis and mathematical configurations, he concluded that the ultimate speed that could ever be attained was that of light traveling through a vacuum (such as the vacuum of space). His theory presented a barrier that through the laws of physics could never be broken…until now.

Guns Get Serious

future guns

Children in the United States are raised differently based on their gender. Girls are given dolls, and boys are given guns. This early exposure embeds guns in our psyche, and leads us to long for bigger and better technology. Traditional bullets just aren’t cutting it these days, we need weapons that shoot cooler things. Engineers have been listening, if you see someone wielding one of the following guns, run.

Live Longer, Look Younger with Telomerase

telomerase

Throughout most of human history, looking young has not been a major problem, mostly because people were dying on average at age 30. Now that the world’s average life expectancy has more than doubled to over 67 years, we’re desperately trying to find new ways to look younger. This point is exemplified by the hundreds of lotions, potions, injections and surgeries designed to help us maintain our youth. Most today are looking for that magic answer to live longer or look like we haven’t been alive that long. That magic remedy we’ve sought may be on the horizon in the form of telomerase gene therapy.

Jet Injection: Needleless Drug Delivery

needleless

Needles have scared and scarred many since their youth, but few knew that fear was an actual condition. Trypanophobia, or fear of needles, affects over 31 million Americans today. Sufferers of Trypanophobia dread medical care and are likely to experience elevated heart rates and blood pressure in the time leading up to a procedure, with a dangerously sharp drop beforehand. With our reliance on needles for getting vital remedies into the human body, Trypanophobia has been a major problem. Fortunately, researchers at MIT have engineered a new method for getting patients the juice they need: jet injection.
