The $315 Billion Gold Room
“One’s first reaction is that it can’t possibly be real because normally you don’t see such things, I’ve never seen so much gold. In fact I’ve never seen so much of any element.” – Professor Martyn Poliakoff
British Chemist and University of Nottingham Research Professor Martyn Poliakoff takes us on a rare tour of the gold vault at the Bank of England. In terms of weight, this one room stores over 10 million pounds of Element 79!
Amazingly, if all of the gold ever mined in the history of world were combined into one cube, it would only measure about 60 square feet! The video really puts into perspective the true scarcity of our dense, soft and shiny friend.
